DIY Makeup Brush Cleaner

We've all neglected to clean our makeup brushes at some point or another. For me that has in part been due to not knowing any good ways to clean them! Fortunately, I have found a wonderful easy option. This is a cleaner I trust. The cleansing process takes less than a minute to do, and using essential oils offers a great benefit to your skin.

In seconds you can see your brushes go from completely makeup covered back to looking like a brand new brush. When I witnessed this, I was astonished to see how easy it was to just get rid of all the gunk using just a few drops of oil, castille soap and water.

What You'll Need

Unscented Castille Soap ( I use Dr. Bronner's) and the three essential oils that will be used for this cleaner will be Lavender, Tea Tree (Melaleuca Alternifolia), and German Chamomile. All three of these essential oils are great supporters of healthy skin! Tea Tree is also specifically an excellent cleansing oil. (Perfect for cleaning makeup brushes right!?)

How It Works

So to get this process started, just gather up all of your makeup brushes, castille soap and the three essential oils next to a sink. I usually use my kitchen sink for counter space to dry brushes afterwards, but if you have counter space for them to dry! Next get your first brush and run a little water over it to get it damp. Put the brush down and put about a dime size of Castille Soap in the palm of your hand along with one drop of each of the oils. Then just rub your brush in a circular motion in the mixture and you'll see the brushes getting release all the makeup material as you do this.

It's probably best to just keep the water running during this process and you can splash a little water over your hand to rinse as you're cleaning the brush. Once the water is running clear you have finished cleaning your brush and can tap it to try to get most of the water out for faster drying. I just put out a towel on the counter to let my brushes dry.

When the brushes are finished drying continue using them and enjoy the soft bristles of your brush with an added pleasant scent! I clean my brushes every couple of weeks personally, however, depending on how often you are applying makeup, this may be something you want to do weekly.

Also if you haven't heard yet, Young Living has put out their own cosmetics line that is natural and safe for your skin. To check out their Savvy Minerals! Shoot me an email if this is something your interested in checking out!
